A TRIBUTE TO AN OLD MEMBER
MARGARET ELIZABETH PREECE
On Monday, 19th March 2018 there was a funeral service held in St. Michael’s Church, Oldwood for Margaret Preece who was, during the early years of this century, an active member of the Tenbury Rambling Club.
For those current members of the Club, and also for others who do remember her, the following has been compiled to give a brief account of those years when her presence at a ramble could not go unnoticed. She used ‘colourful' language which in no way offended and took much pleasure in having verbal duels with several others during walks.
The following lists significant dates in her time spent with the Club:
2001 June 12 Led a walk together with Bettyne Wadesley in the Leysters area.
2002 April 7 Was down to lead another walk with Bettyne but had to withdraw.
2003 Was elected as a Committee member
May 8 Led a walk at Llanfihangel-nant-melan, Wales.
Sept 15 Led a walk along part of Offa’s Dyke.
2004 Was made Programme Secretary
July 11 Led a walk around the region of St. Michael’s, Oldwood.
In Issue 6 of “Footnotes” she appears in two photographs when she attended a Club trip to Batsford Arboretum.
2005 Feb. 6 Led a walk around the Stoke Bliss and Kyre area. There was a report on this walk given in Issue 7 of ‘Footnotes’.
2007 She was a member of the refreshments team rota for the evening meetings for that year. During one year she made a pledge to attend every walk on the programme. Whether she achieved this goal is unknown, but it is believed that she came close.
2010 Nov. 28 Margaret, who had been unwell for some time, managed to attend the Club’s Annual Christmas lunch which was held at ‘The Granary’, Collington.
She passed away on 23rd February, 2018 aged 86 years.
